Hund-n-Flocken - Adult
Hund-n-Flocken means dog food flakes in German. The ingredients
we use are USDA Choice, range fed lamb and USDA Grade 1 and II
grains. Our lamb is free of all hormones and medications, and
the grains are bought with a guarantee that they are free of
pesticides.
Hund-n-Flocken is a dry dog food for all dogs, especially those
with food allergies. The most common causes of allergies in dogs
are soybeans (#1), wheat (#2), and corn (#3). These ingredients
should be avoided as they can cause digestive problems, chronic
licking at the feet, persistent ear infections and chewing at
the feet and base of the tail.

Key
Benefits
Wheat and corn are often genetically modified in the U.S. We do
not use genetically modified grains in our food. Instead of
these cheap, allergic "filler" grains, we use the following
wholesome grains:
|
-
Millet - A
nutritious, ancient grain thought to be one of the first
ever cereal grains used for domestic purposes. Millet is
renowned for being a "soothing", non-allergenic and easily
digestible grain.
-
Cracked Pearl Barley
- A wholesome grain, which helps to keep the arteries
clear. Barley is recognized as one of the most readily
assimilated grains for dogs and is commonly recommended
for dogs with joint problems or allergies.
-
Brown Rice - We
use stone-ground brown rice, never white rice, which is
devoid of up to 75% of its nutrients. Brewers rice is of
an even lower quality - the official AAFCO (Association of
American Feed Control Officials) definition of Brewers
Rice is "The small fragments of rice kernels that have
been separated from the larger kernels of milled rice." It
is considered one of the by-products of rice milling.
Brown rice is a much richer source of B-Vitamins. We use
rice bran, an important part of the whole grain, which as
cancer and heart disease fighting properties.
All the grains used in our Solid Gold foods are bought
with a guarantee that they are free of disease such as
Aflatoxin and Vomitoxin.
-
Lamb
The lamb meal used in our adult and puppy foods is
certified free of hormones, growth promoter and
medications such as antibiotics. We never use poultry or
meat by-products, the AAFCO definitions of which include
necks, feet, underdeveloped eggs, intestines (poultry
by-products) and offal such a spleens, lungs, brains,
kidneys, livers, blood, bone, fatty tissue, stomachs and
intestines freed of their contents (meat by-products). We
never use "animal digest" which may be the full guts,
including manure.
-
Orean Fish
A study published in the American Journal of Clinical
Nutrition (Aug 1999 issue) recommends eating fish to
reduce the risk of cancer. This protective effect is
attributable to the high level of Omega 3 fatty acids
found in fish.
-
No Preservatives
Solid Gold Foods are free of all chemical preservatives
such as BHA, BHT, and Ethoxyquin, (which "may be harmful
by ingestion, inhalation and through skin contact" and is
a "skin & eye irritant", according to the manufacturer"s
Material Safety Data Sheet).
We never use Vitamin E (tocopherol) or Vitamin C as
preservatives in our foods - these are ineffective
preservatives, which last for only a month or so. A
manufacturer is only required to list the chemical
preservatives it adds to the product itself, not the
chemicals that have already been added to raw ingredients.
Our foods are regularly assayed by an independent
laboratory to prove that the finished products and
ingredients are all free of these harmful chemicals.
See article on "Revolutionary Packaging" for information
on why we don"t need to use artificial chemicals to
preserve our foods.
-
Oils
We use flax oil and canola oil in our foods. These
unsaturated oils have balanced Omega 3 and 6 fatty acid
ratios. Saturated fats such as those found in meat,
poultry and dairy products may contribute to cancer and
heart disease. We never add animal or poultry fats to our
pet foods. Saturated animal fats are often preserved with
potent chemicals such as ethoxyquin. Monounsaturated fats
such as canola oil are beneficial in the management of
blood cholesterol. Polyunsaturated fats such as flax seed
and fish oils contain Omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids
which help maintain the fluidity of cell membranes and
fight diseases such as cancer (reported in "Whole Foods
Magazine" September 1997).
-
Other ingredients
Our dry foods are free of any added salt or sugar. The
only sodium in our products is that which occurs naturally
in the meat and grains. Salt may contribute to heart and
blood pressure problems. Sugar may contribute to chronic
ear infections, diabetes and pancreas problems. We never
use sugar beet pulp, which is a by-product of the sugar
industry. It is added to some pet foods as a "filler" to
slow down the transition of (rancid) animal fats, which
are essentially toxic waste. The body tries to expel these
fats as quickly as possible and diarrhea is the most
effective way. Sugar Beet Pulp is used to hold this toxic
waste in. This may cause the feet to swell, which in turn
may cause the dog to lick its feet.
-
Blueberries (Vaccinium myrtillus) - Renowned for their
ability to improve vision and protect the sensitive
mechanisms in the retina. Current research is also
examining the memory-enhancing qualities of blueberries,
which have powerful anti-oxidant (anti-aging) properties.
Blueberries also have an inhibiting effect on the ability
of bacteria such as E. Coli to adhere to the urethra and
bladder wall. (See article on Urinary Tract Disorders.)
